Dear UConn Community,
UConn’s Office of Veterans & Military Programs and the Town of Mansfield is partnering to place wreaths on the gravestones in our community to honor those who served our country. We need your help to SPONSOR A WREATH or to volunteer to help us place the wreaths on the gravestones of veterans in Mansfield. This is a big ask, since we need more than 900 wreaths sponsored and then placed on veterans’ gravestones at 14 different locations. Monday, December 15th we will hold a ceremony at the New Storrs Ceremony and with the help of volunteers, we will place wreaths on veterans gravesites immediately following the ceremony.
In the past UConn’s Office of Veterans & Military Programs coordinated a care package drive with all donations going to local shelters. When presented with the opportunity to join the Town of Mansfield and the efforts of Wreaths Across America to honor those Veterans with a wreath on their gravestone over the holidays, we decided to join these efforts in lieu of the care package drive. Please join us to honor the memory of veterans and all they contributed during their lifetimes.
And because our office loves a good competition, we will have the option for teams at UConn compete to sponsor the most wreaths. To compete, please complete this FORM with your Team’s POC. As you purchase wreaths, email Emily at emily.i.lugo@uconn.edu with your team’s name and order number. You can also email Emily directly with any questions about Wreaths Across America.
