As Vice President of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Clinical Supply at Merck, Allen leads drug product formulation development as well as clinical supply manufacture and distribution. Allen earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under Royce W. Murray. He has published over 60 research articles, co-invented 11 patents, and authored over 120 presentations in pharmaceutical product research. He has organized symposia and training courses on diverse topics within the field.
Dr. Templeton is an active member of professional organizations, including the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and the American Chemical Society (ACS). He served in various leadership positions with AAPS and ACS, including treasurer (current) and the board of directors for AAPS, and was named a Fellow of the Association in 2015 for his scientific accomplishments. He participates on an advisory board and has taught courses in an adjunct role with Purdue University. He also serves on editorial advisory boards for the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and American Pharmaceutical Review. He is passionate about pharmaceutical science education and has served as a guest lecturer and philanthropic advocate for the Kilimanjaro School of Pharmacy in Tanzania.
