Volunteers wanted for a paid research study on change in sound exposure and hearing function.
What is this study about?
We want to understand how temporary changes in sound exposure to one versus two ears affect the structures of the hearing system.
Who can participate?
Any individual who is between 18-28 years old, has normal hearing, and is in good medical health is eligible to participate.
What will I have to do?
Participants will take part in a two-week study. Participation will include hearing assessments, measures of neural function, and three blood draws. Participants will also be asked to wear a soft silicone earplug in one ear continuously (including during sleep) for one week. Participation in this study will also include the complete of a total of three blood draws across the two-week study period.
Participation will require travel to the Phillips Communication Sciences Building on the Storrs Campus of the University of Connecticut for a total of three testing sessions. Each session will last approximately 1 hour.
As compensation for participating in the study, participants will receive up to $100.00.
The research is conducted through IRB #H24-0426, under the direction of Dr. Erika Skoe of the Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Department.
