Dear Colleagues,
Greetings! I hope you are enjoying the last few days of the spring semester. International students will arrive at our Storrs campus to move into University housing on August 15, 2025, and the Center for International Students and Scholars (CISS) is looking for Faculty, Staff and Current UConn Students to help us welcome our new international students to campus. Please share the message below with other faculty, staff or current graduate and undergraduate students in your departments.
You can sign up to help with international student move-in and welcome program here:
International Student Move-In and Welcome Support Sign Up 2025
We are seeking to fill the following support roles:
- Airport Shuttle Assistants (JFK, BOS, EWR). You will work with a UConn Global staff member to guide students to the shuttle bus at the airport and help with the shopping stop on the way to UConn. Buses will leave UConn Storrs at 8:00 AM and return to campus around 4:00 PM. This is a great way to support students during the arrival stage by helping them find the bus, checking them into the UConn shuttle bus, helping them navigate the store to purchase necessities, and answering questions along the way. It’ll be a long but very rewarding day! Friday, August 15, 2025.
- Information Tent Staff at key locations: You will greet students and families, answer important questions, and help them find their way on campus. Hours: shifts of 2-4 hours during the 11:00 AM-8:00 PM time frame on Friday, August 15, 2025.
- Move In Assistants help students get from the check in point at Charter Oak Apartments to their residence halls. You will be paired with a new student or pair of new students to ride the bus to their assigned campus housing. You are not expected to carry student luggage but may need to assist watching bags as students are moving in or by encouraging students to work together to help each other manage luggage. The main purpose is to help the student find their Residence Hall, ensure they can enter the building and their room and to answer questions along the way.
Hours: shifts of 2-4 hours during the 11:00 AM-8:00 PM time frame on Friday, August 15, 2025.
- International Resource Fair Assistants will help CISS staff on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Student Union, first floor. You will greet students and direct them to the different service providers at the Resource Fair as well as answering important questions and being a welcoming presence to campus.
- Welcome Program Activity Assistants*: Current UConn undergraduate students are needed to interact and facilitate game and activity nights on Saturday, August 16th 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM and Tuesday, August 19th 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. These evenings are a great way to welcome and help new international students. (*Undergraduate students only)
We appreciate your partnership and commitment to our international students!
With gratitude,
Jennifer & the CISS Welcome Program Team
