The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is pleased to introduce Shannon Walsh, who joined UConn this month to serve as an attorney in the OGC. Shannon most recently worked in the Office of the General Counsel for the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system as an Associate General Counsel. In addition, Venu Nair, who most recently served as the General Counsel at Western Oregon University, is expected to join the OGC later this spring.
Shannon and Venu join General Counsel Nicole Gelston, Deputy General Counsel Nathan LaVallee and Senior University Counsel Jon Heinlein in the Storrs-based OGC. The Storrs-based OGC has primary responsibility for the University, except UConn Health.
UConn Health maintains a separate OGC, overseen by its Chief Counsel, Scott Simpson. The two offices routinely collaborate on matters impacting the University.
A full list of staff in both offices can be found here.
Please note that the attorneys in the OGC are the only University employees authorized to serve as legal counsel to the institution. Communications with OGC attorneys made for the purpose of seeking or receiving legal advice may be protected by the attorney-client privilege. While other employees at UConn may hold a Juris Doctor, and may have legal expertise in their fields, those individuals are not authorized to represent the institution in a legal capacity or hold privileged communications with the institution or its employees.
If you have an issue or question you want to discuss with the OGC at Storrs, please email generalcounsel@uconn.edu.
If you have a contract that you need reviewed or approved, please email it to UConncontracts@uconn.edu. Please note that contract preparation and negotiation for the purchase of goods or services must first be submitted to the University’s Procurement Department, which will coordinate with OGC as necessary.
