  • Youth Substance Use Treatment: Online or In-Person

    We at UConn Health, (Farmington campus) are hoping to collaborate with anyone who can help us spread the word of our program to outreach to youthful (ages 14-21) individuals who may benefit from our free, highly effective research treatment for alcohol and/or substance use of any kind, including marijuana use, from mild to severe use.

    Individuals may be eligible if they:

    - Are 14-21 years old

    - Might have a need for alcohol and/or drug use treatment, and

    - Are not currently receiving treatment for alcohol/drug concerns only. Mental Health therapy is fine.

    - Are able to attend the following appointments in person or online:

          - 8 free weekly CBT-MET group therapy

          - 2 free individual sessions

           - Research intake and follow ups (compensation up to $250)

    There is no medication involved in this study, just counseling (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)), all conducted in-person at our Farmington campus or online with extremely experienced clinicians and research staff.

     Please note:
    - Compensation is up to $250 for all completed research appointments.


    -All 10 sessions of treatment are provided at no cost and health insurance is not needed.

    Study eligibility will be decided through a 15-minute telephone screener.

    · Eligible participants will complete an Intake Assessment followed by the 10 weeks of therapy.

    · Participants will complete questionnaires at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months following the onset of treatment.

    Dr. Kaminer is happy to provide presentations/workshops, podcasts for your organization at no cost.

    He has been engaged in clinical substance use treatment for 30+ years and research collaboration with Wheeler Clinic, The Bridge, DCF, The Village in Hartford, Catholic Charities, several universities/colleges, many high-schools and Juvenile Justice System/agencies in Hartford County and North-Central Connecticut.
