  • Family Emotions Study: Enrolling Participants

Have you experienced something very stressful?

Parents who have experienced something very stressful and their children (11-14 years old) are invited to participate in the Supporting Teens' Adjustment and Resilience Study (STARS).  This research study is designed to help us learn about emotions in families and the strategies that youth use to manage their feelings.

    What is involved?

Participation takes place in two phases:

    • Phase 1:  You and your child will meet with our study staff to complete questionnaires about stressful events, emotions, what you do when you experience certain emotions, do a puzzle, and measure your heartrate. You will each receive $60 in gift cards for completing this portion of the study.
    • Phase 2: You and your child will use an app on your phone (we’ll provide one for use during the study if you don’t have one!) to answer a 3–5-minute questionnaire about how you are feeling, 3 times per day, for 14 days. You will each receive up to $100 in gift cards for completing this portion of the study.
