  • 4/24 Apply to Conference on the Teaching of Writing

    Dear UConn Community,

On behalf of the First-Year Writing Conference Planning Committee, we are pleased to announce that we are now accepting proposals for the University of Connecticut First-Year Writing Program’s Twentieth Annual Conference on the Teaching of Writing. The conference will be held in Storrs on Thursday, April 24th, and Friday, April 25th, 2025

This year’s theme is “Joy to You and Me: Making Space for Joy in the Writing Classroom.” We believe that joy is a powerful resource and pedagogical framework that can transform our teaching practices. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Stephanie West-Puckett as our keynote speaker. Her work focuses on integrating queer interventions into writing studies and assessment, emphasizing the role of joy in education.

We invite faculty, graduate students, and educators from all disciplines to submit proposals that explore how joy can be infused into writing instruction. Proposals can take the form of research presentations, teaching workshops, or contributions to our Research Slam. The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, January 10th, 2025

Submissions should be 250 to 300 words and highlight how your presentation will engage the audience. The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, January 10th, 2025

Please find the full Call for Proposals (CFP) and additional information on the Conference website

We encourage you to share this announcement with colleagues who might be interested.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us at FYWConference@uconn.edu

We look forward to your contributions to a conference that celebrates joy in the teaching of writing!

    Sincerely,
2025 UConn First-Year Writing Conference Planning Committee
