Dear faculty, postdocs and grad students,
Are you interested in supporting underrepresented and first-gen students (from UConn and elsewhere) as they consider and apply to graduate programs in Psychology and related areas? Then
sign up here (it only takes ~3 min!) to be a mentor in the
MAGIC program (Mentoring Aspiring Graduate students and building an Inclusive Community)!
If you filled out a survey indicating your interest in mentoring in the past couple of weeks, there is NO NEED to sign up again – we will be in touch soon.
We already have almost 100 mentees signed up this year (signups are ongoing), and looking over their interests, we see that we particularly need more mentors in Clinical, Developmental, Social, Cognitive, Educational, and Behavioral Neuroscience for our first round of matches to be released on Oct 7.
What is expected of a mentor? Your role as a mentor can range from having a single conversation to a longer-term relationship (it’s up to you!). We will share tips and mentoring resources to help guide your conversations. Once matched, we ask that you reach out to your mentee and attempt to schedule at least one meeting. Whether you continue to meet, and if so, how often, will depend on what works for both you and your mentee.
Please share with any colleagues (e.g., faculty, postdocs, grads) who might be interested in mentoring! They do not need to be affiliated with UConn!
A list of topics that mentees tend to want to discuss is below.
Thank you for your support!
