Dr. Alan S. Kaufman will present a talk titled “WAIS-5: A Giant Has Returned After a 16-Year Absence—But Where Is Its Flynn Effect?”
He will present on Tuesday, September 17th from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, followed by Q & A, in Gentry room 144.
Dr. Kaufman will discuss the recently published 5th edition of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, the reduction of the Flynn effect among adults which has implications for intellectual disability diagnoses, and issues related to the use of age-based norms to measure adult intelligence. Dr. Susan Raiford and Dr. Andrea Turner, research directors at Pearson Assessments, will participate virtually in the talk and answer questions.
Dr. Kaufman is a UConn Research Professor. He has expertise in psychometrics, test construction, and clinical assessment. From 1970-74 he worked with Dr. David Wechsler in developing the WISC-R. His 1979 text Intelligent Testing with the WISC-R influenced how a generation of psychologists interpreted IQ test profiles. With his wife and scholarly colleague, Nadeen, Alan is the co-creator of several widely used tests including the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (KABC), Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (KBIT), Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement (KTEA), and many more—most recently the 2022 KBIT-2 Revised.
