    JOB SUMMARY

    The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences seeks applicants for a full-time Educational Program Assistant 2 for the Department of Molecular & Cell Biology (MCB). Under the direction of the MCB Program Administrator, this position will provide programmatic and administrative support to the Department which includes research and instructional hiring, personnel actions including visa management, H1B and J1 processing, Conflict of Interest, Overload Compensation, Dual Employment requirements among other HR-related activities. The incumbent is expected to work independently under supervision and within the defined guidelines established by the program and the supervisor.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manages all aspects of departmental human resource functions.
    • Posts and hires new faculty positions, both tenure and non-tenure track, post-doctoral appointments, along with adjunct, gratis and special payroll titles (i.e. research technicians, research assistants/associates, etc.)
    • Manages departmental faculty searches including advertising, online interview scheduling, on campus multi-day visit, seminar, chalk talk and associated events.
    • Posts and hires new staff positions, including laboratory/research staff, along with graduate and undergraduate staff.
    • Onboard/offboard faculty, staff, graduate students, and special payroll appointments.
    • Manages the annual Promotion, Tenure and Re-appointment process for departmental faculty appointments including promotions, mid-point reviews and re-appointments.
    • Manages the faculty performance review process in conjunction with the Department Head.
    • Manage departmental faculty sabbatical process and research leaves.
    • Maintains accurate employee records and may assemble data and prepare statistical and/or historical reports, most of which may relate to faculty, staff and graduate students.
    • Processes payroll, including regular payroll, special payroll, faculty summer salaries, student labor, etc.
    • Calculates salaries in conjunction with the Grants Services team for faculty summer payroll along with faculty certifications and processes payroll transactions.
    • Reviews and executes Letters of Agreement (LOA’s) with incoming departmental faculty.
    • Serves as a resource to individuals and groups on matters relating to employment-related activities, and administrative policies and procedures.
    • Performs office management duties in processing administrative, academic, financial, payroll, and immigration paperwork in compliance with federal, state, and University guidelines.
    • Collaborates with H.R., Payroll, General Counsel’s Office, Provost, and Dean’s offices on all matters related to employment.
    • Collects, compiles, maintains, and disseminates news about hiring opportunities relating to research and teaching.
    • Provides employment related data needed for program assessment /reaccreditation projects.
    • Provides direct training on university systems and related support services to students and some faculty and follows up to resolve problems in the assigned area of responsibility.
    • Provides administrative support to the Department Head including calendar, travel, procurement, etc.,
    • Performs related work as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
    2. Two to three years of related experience.
    3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    4. Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft programs.
    5. Demonstrated superior customer service skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Experience working in a higher education setting.
    2. Experience working in a unionized/collective bargaining environment.
    3. Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
    4. Ability to multitask and perform under pressure while prioritizing competing deadlines.
    5. Ability to engage, connect, and work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This position will be in-person at the UConn Storrs campus within the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. This is a full-time position.
