  • Enrolling Participants 65+: EEG Study

Older adult volunteers are needed to participate in a two-session research study investigating how listeners process speech.

Participants will listen to speech sounds and make decisions about them and may also view pictures or text along with the speech sounds. We will also have you perform a hearing test and tests of some cognitive functions.

In a second session, we will collect EEG (electrical activity from the brain, measured by electrodes placed on the head) while you listen to speech.

The study will last between 60 and 120 minutes per session.

Requirements: If interested in participating, you must:

    1. Be 65 years of age or older

    2. Be a native speaker of North American English

    3. Have normal or corrected-to normal vision

    4. Have no history of neurological impairment (e.g., stroke)

    5. Have no known speech or language disorders

    6. Have no hearing deficit, or only mild hearing loss

    7. Have no sensitivity or allergy to adhesive/tape

Participants will receive $15 per hour for participation in research done without EEG and $30 per hour for research with EEG. If interested, please contact UConnMyersLab@gmail.com or (860)-486-0931.
