  • 5/31 In Memoriam: Dr. Kentwood Wells

Dr. Kent Wells, a faculty member in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department for over 40 years, passed away at home early Thursday morning.
He served as department head from 2008 - 2013.  Those of us who knew him will remember his reasoned approach, his concern, and his terrific ability to extract humor from absurd human behavior.  His passion for politics was legendary, perhaps surpassed only by his knowledge of and passion for amphibians, which he poured into his 1148 page, single-authored book "The Ecology and Behavior of Amphibians." He was also a Darwin scholar and a collector of first editions of early treatises on evolutionary biology and animal behavior.  In his retirement, he turned his focus to antique Magic Lanterns, an interest he shared with his parents.

There will be a funeral service Friday, May 31, at 12:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home in Willimantic, with calling hours beginning at 11:00 am.
