  • 4/24 Do You Use UG Learning Assistants in Your Class?

Wednesday, April 24 3:00-4:00 PM, in Rowe 319 and online.

LAs (Learning Assistants) are "near peer" mentors who help students engage with the material. Because they are near-peers (usually students who excelled in the class the previous year) and often reflect the demographics of the classroom, adding LAs to your class support team can help increase learning across the board and decrease achievement gaps between demographic groups. LAs are distinct from undergraduate TAs in that they do not typically lead lab/recitation/discussion sections, nor do they usually assign grades. They are distinct from SIs (supplemental instructors) in that they do not typically deliver content, but this can vary.

The faculty development team at CETL wants to understand the current LA landscape (LAndscape?) at UConn so that we can better support you. If you currently have LAs , you are invited to join a conversation about how you engage them in your classrooms.

If you are unable to attend, but use LAs, please tell us about it using this short (<5 minute) survey.
