Workshop on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
    Friday, April 19, 10:00-11:00, ROWE 132

If you are interested in exploring the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL, aka DBER), please join us for a workshop lead by S. Raj Chaudhury, Ph.D. Executive Director, Innovation in Learning Center and Assoc. Professor, Department of Physics at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, AL.

Many academics often find our way to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) as a second research pathway towards deeper understanding of student learning and our own instructional practice. Though we might be steeped in disciplinary ways of knowing, we learn to expand our boundaries and embrace afresh scholarly inquiry with methodologies and approaches different from ones we may have originally trained on. The learning sciences literature makes us aware that experts in one domain can become novices in another. Our academic lives exist not only within disciplinary cultures but also must intersect with our institutional cultures. Cultures can be affirming but they can also be deterring. In this workshop, we shall weave together these threads, revisit the Boyer Model and practice some application activities related to SoTL projects.
