The next psychology colloquium is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th at 3:30pm via WebEx. Dr. Parish-Morris, Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and Scientist at the Center for Autism Research, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will be presenting her work titled “Let’s Talk About Language in Autism.” We look forward to having you with us!
Abstract: Social communication in autism is unique and highly variable; some individuals are hyper-linguistic, others struggle but cope, and still others hardly speak at all; sometimes, people move around the spoken language continuum across development. In this talk, I will discuss studies of autism, language, and a significant source of heterogeneity that remains poorly understood and under-supported in autism: girl-ness. The importance of supporting autistic individuals and their families as they navigate life and achieve their personal social communication goals will be discussed.
Individual Meetings: Dr. Parish-Morris kindly offers to host individual meetings with interested faculty and students. If you would like to meet with Dr. Parish-Morris, please complete this interest form BY Thursday March 14th. The meetings will be held virtually.
