LANGUAGE TREATMENT AND BRAIN IMAGING STUDY
Join our research study! For individuals with aphasia.
Are you looking to improve your language skills after a stroke? We are conducting a research study to understand how the brain responds to language treatment. We aim to uncover the impact of language treatment on language skills and brain activation.
What's Involved:
• Participate in three separate testing sessions where we assess your language skills before and after treatment.
• Engage in comprehensive 30-hour treatment sessions, meeting for three hours daily over two weeks.
• If eligible, take part in three separate MRI scans at UConn’s Brain Imaging Research Center, with each session lasting approximately 45 minutes, including about 10 minutes of preparation
time.
You Qualify If You:
🧠Have language deficits resulting from a stroke and seek to improve your verbal spoken language.
🚗 Can arrange transportation to the UConn Speech and Language Clinic for all assessments and treatment sessions.
📊 Are safe to undergo an MRI scan. We will review a screening form with you to ensure your safety.
Benefits:
Intensive language treatments have been proven effective in enhancing verbal skills for many people with aphasia. Additionally, your participation will help us better understand how the brain changes after language treatment, potentially benefiting future patients.
Compensation:
Upon completing the study, participants will be reimbursed for their travel at a rate of $10/day (excepting treatment days). In addition, participants will be paid $25/hr. for each fMRI scan.
