The next psychology colloquium is scheduled for Wednesday February 21st at 3:30pm at BOUS A106. Dr. Nicole Landi from our Department of Psychological Sciences, University of Connecticut will be presenting the work titled “School Partnerships Facilitate Ecologically Valid Research on Reading.” We hope that you will join us!
Abstract: Decades of research on reading and reading disability (RD) have refined our understanding of the cognitive and neurobiological basis of reading and informed the development of effective interventions for RD; however, there is often limited or inaccurate translation of this knowledge to the broader scientific, clinical, and educational communities. Combined with increasing interest in the science of reading (SOR) and popularity of putative brain-based approaches to learning, it is important to create opportunities for direct communication between researchers and practitioners and to facilitate translational and community engaged research. In this presentation I will give a brief “state of the field” for translational research on reading and RD, and I will discuss an ongoing project that utilizes researcher-practitioner partnerships and in-school neuroscience labs to facilitate bidirectional learning and ecologically valid research on reading intervention response.
The remaining colloquium schedule is listed below. All talks will take place at 3:30pm on Wednesday's unless otherwise noted. The mode (online/in-person) of each talk may differ, please see future email announcements.
