  • Cycling Study, Age 50-60: Human Subjects Requested

    Researchers from the Department of Allied Health Sciences at UConn are conducting a study to evaluate musculoskeletal and cardiovascular adaptations to different intensities of exercise cycling between two age groups.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Healthy male individuals between the ages of 18-25 or 50-60 years.
    • Normal weight (BMI<24.9 , BMI Calculator).
    • Novice cycling experience (do not use bicycle for exercise or transport for more than once a week).
    • No known history of orthopedic, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular problems.
    • No persistent joint pain or movement limitations.

    Procedure includes:

    1. Two supervised stationary-cycling sessions; each between 20-30 minutes, with at least a 48-hour rest in between (blood pressure, heart rate, and muscles and joints activities will be evaluated throughout both sessions).
    2. A supervised session to measure maximum voluntary muscle contractions of the leg muscles.
