  • Updated Info For Storrs Research That Involves UCH

The UConn Storrs IRB office, in consultation with the UConn Health (UCH) IRB office, recently updated its instructions for collaborative research and for Storrs research that recruits from or uses UConn Health facilities:

When UConn Storrs and UConn Health faculty or personnel are collaborating on a research study, the IRB offices will determine the appropriate IRB of record. The lead Principal Investigator on the project should contact their institution’s IRB office as early in the planning process as possible and before submitting the study to either IRB for review. Storrs PIs should submit the External Involvement/Reliance Intake Form to irb-reliance@uconn.edu.  PIs at UCH should email the UCH IRB at irb@uchc.edu

*UConn Storrs researchers who would like to recruit through UCH may submit recruitment materials to UCH’s Lifeline (akin to the UConn Storrs Daily Digest) for studies that have been approved by the UConn Storrs IRB. The Lifeline advertisement must be approved by the IRB before posting and must include the IRB # for reference. Payment may not be emphasized (e.g., by referencing in the subject line). For all other recruitment activities at or involving UCH, submit a recruitment request form to the UCH IRB office (irb@uchc.edu)  to obtain permission for recruitment activities per UConn Health policy.

**Researchers who want to use UCH facilities to conduct Storrs IRB-approved research activities in UCH facilities will need to request permission by submitting a Confirmation of Available Resources form to irb@uchc.edu.

The two IRB offices, with the guidance of Mike Centola, the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity, are continuing our efforts to streamline processes and facilitate collaboration.  Additional announcements will be forthcoming as we continue to make progress.
