  • The Winner of the Veterans Donation Drive Is...

    To the UConn Community,

This year the Veterans and Military Programs office held its 10th Annual Homeless Veterans Donation Drive. We want to thank all the departments and individual participants who donated this year! The UConn community continues to show their care and dedication to this effort. This drive is only successful due to the contributions made by you all, and we look forward to continuing this effort every year; we cannot do it without! The UConn VAMP team wanted to spread a little extra cheer this year with some holiday caroling. Check it out!

Without further ado and after careful review, this year's winner is....

University Business Services/Procurement’s "Huskies for Heros"! This team blew us away with all the donations they collected for our homeless veterans. Congratulations on your win! I also want to give a thank you to the other departments who competed and/or donated: School of Nursing, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Operations, Honors & Enrichment Programs, and Global Affairs/Experiential Global Learning. And to the individuals who stopped by our office to contribute to the drive, many having loved ones who are currently serving or have served, you are truly appreciated.

The contributions from this year’s donation drive were divided between Homes for the Brave and South Park Inn.  Since opening its doors in 2002, Homes for the Brave has provided safe housing, vocational training, job placement, mental health and addiction services, and life skills coaching to help individuals, especially veterans, leave homelessness behind. Established in 1984, South Park Inn specializes in providing support services tailored to the needs of homeless veterans.  South Park Inn works closely with the local Veteran’s Administration Homeless Service Coordinator to identify and place homeless veterans in its transitional and permanent housing programs as soon as possible.

VAMP would like to thank you and your team for their significant and meaningful contributions. Have a great Spring semester!
