    The Part Time (PT) Career Coach will meet with UConn students and recent alumni at the Avery Point campus, regarding matters related to career coaching, such as major and career exploration, job and internship search résumé writing, interviewing, and LinkedIn. The PT Career Coach will collaborate with members of the Center for Career Development’s Corporate Partner Relations team to coordinate employer campus visits. The PT Career Coach will partner with students in one-on-one sessions and groups to empower them to make decisions about their academic and career-related plans. This positive and interactive approach is the process of equipping students with tools, knowledge and opportunities that allow them to gain insight as well as determine action steps and plans for achievable career outcomes. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Regional Campus Career Services, career coaching training will be provided. UConn Avery Point Campus sits on 72 acres on Long Island Sound and consists of 22 buildings to support a vibrant and inclusive campus that supports student success. There are approximately 480 undergraduate students with a high percentage of students in their first and second year and approximately 66 graduate students pursuing one of our 3 graduate programs on campus. Students can begin their academic career at UConn Avery Point campus and then campus change to Storrs typically in sophomore year to pursue upper-level course work in their major or they can pursue one of our four-year majors; Marine Science, Maritime Studies, English, Bachelor of General Studies.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Creates and implements creative outreach strategies to increase student awareness and engagement in career services.
    • Coaches and advises students on major and career exploration and decision making.
    • Provides guidance and assists students in preparing career planning and self-marketing materials including resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.
    • Designs and conducts workshops including resume development, job and internship search skills, interviewing,  and networking.
    • Cultivates partnerships with faculty and staff, fostering a campus-wide culture of Career Everywhere that integrates career readiness competencies into various aspects of the students’ college experience.
    • Actively recruits new Career Champions to strengthen the network and expand the reach of career support services.
    • Engages academic departments, conducts informational meetings, and implements outreach activities to attract student participation in Center for Career Development programs.
    • Organizes and conducts tailored programming for classes, academic departments, residence halls, and student groups.
    • Assists in planning employer/student recruiting strategies for students such as on-campus employer visits.
    • Engages and partners with alumni to connect students to viable career opportunities and meaningful career information, including internships and post-graduation opportunities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • At least 3 years of post-graduation work experience.
    • Prior career coaching, career counseling, advising, and/or teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated understanding of working with first and second year students in the early stages of career development.
    • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience working with diverse populations.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a temporary, part-time opportunity (maximum 20 hours per week) on-site at UConn Avery Point in Groton, CT for immediate hire through Spring 2024. The position is initially for the fall semester, but extension is expected for the spring 2024 semester and will be based on funding and performance, with the possibility of future academic semester renewals.
