  • Seeking Application Reviewers for CT-JSHS

The Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (CT-JSHS) is currently in search of application reviewers for this year’s competition!

About JSHS - JSHS, a prestigious national program, invites high school students to report on the results of their original research investigations in STEM and compete for scholarships and recognition at university-held regional symposia. All students in grades 9-12 enrolled in public, private, or home schools are eligible to participate in their local regional symposium. For more information on CT-JSHS, please check out our website at https://ctjshs.com/.

Reviewer Responsibilities - Those selected to participate will be given access to student applications and a rubric as guidance for scoring. Students submissions consist of an abstract, statement of outside assistance form, as well as a couple of short answer questions related to their research. You'll be given over a week, from January 1st-10th, to review and score multiple student submissions (approx. 8-10) remotely. The exact number of submissions each reviewer will be responsible for depends on the number of applicants and reviewers. Reviewers are also invited to attend a virtual reviewers meeting on January 11th from 5:30-7:30PM to discuss your reviews and determine which students earned oral and poster presentations. While attendance at this meeting is not required, it is strongly encouraged.

Who Is Eligible to Review? - Anyone who loves STEM, whether you’re a grad student, post-doc, faculty member, working professional, or anyone else on a STEM-related career path!

Will I Be Paid? - This is considered a volunteer position, but as thanks for their time and effort, students and post-docs will be offered a modest stipend. (It is important to note, however, graduate students on a student visa will be ineligible to receive compensation due to the restrictions of the visa.)

Interested in Helping Out? - Please take a few moments to fill out this Google survey before it closes on November 21st: https://forms.gle/xDpxLL5ch7NNayRz7. We will be contacting interested reviewers via email in December with additional information.

Still Have Questions? - Feel free to contact Pearl Sutter at psutter@uchc.edu. Thank you for your time and consideration of this request!
