The Office of Public Engagement is pleased to announce the awarding of a renewable grant from the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania for the formation of the New England University-Assisted Community School Collaborative (NE UACSC). NE UACSC will provide training and technical assistance on the university-assisted community school model, including offering guidance, structure and assistance on academic experiences, college and career readiness programming, academic support and development for students and teachers, and actively be involved in the communities in which the schools reside. NE UACSC will serve as a repository for information and guide others to achieve success while assuring adherence to the principles of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships’ university-assisted community school model in its unique application at their own sites.
NE UACSC will be a robust regional center serving the New England region. Using the existing UConn university-assisted community schools, state legislative initiatives throughout the region, models extant in other universities and a genuine authentic belief that universities must utilize their expertise to enhance community schools for the overall benefit of society, NE UACSC will advance the goals of the Netter Center and create positive learning environments to vigorously make change in response to John Dewey’s statement that:
“If we teach today’s student as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”
