  • 10/26 Alumni Reading Series

The University of Connecticut’s Creative Writing Program is pleased to announce the Alumni Reading Series. This year UConn alumni Crystal Maldonado and Tim Stobierski will read at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the UConn Bookstore-Storrs Center.

Crystal Maldonado is a young adult author of three rom-coms for fat, brown girls including The Fall of Whit Rivera (forthcoming in October 2023); Fat Chance, Charlie Vega (2021) which was a New England Book Award winner, a Cosmopolitan Best New Book, and a Kirkus Best YA Fiction of 2021; No Filter and Other Lies (2022), which was named a POPSUGAR and Seventeen Best New YA Book. By day, she works in higher education marketing, and by night, she’s a writer who loves Beyoncé, glitter, shopping, and spending too much time on her phone. Her work has been published in Latina, BuzzFeed, and the Hartford Courant. She lives in western Massachusetts with her husband, daughter, and dog.

Tim Stobierksi writes about relationships. His first book of poetry, Dancehall, was published in 2023. His work explores universal themes of love, lust, longing, and loss—presented through the lens of his own experiences as a queer man. His poetry has been published or is forthcoming in a number of journals, including the Connecticut River Review, Midwest Quarterly, Gay & Lesbian Review, and Grey Sparrow. He is a freelance writer and content strategist focused on the world of finance, investing, fintech, insurance, and software. He has written extensively for companies including Northwestern Mutual, Persona Identities, Harvard Business School Online, Acorns, Nerdwallet, and more.
He is also the founder and editor of StudentDebtWarriors.com, a free resource for college students, graduates, and parents who are struggling to make sense of the complex world of student loans.

The reading is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Creative Writing Program and the UCONN Bookstore. The UConn Bookstore is located at 1 Royce Circle, Storrs, Connecticut 06269, 860-486-8525.
