    Ornamental Plant Breeding at UConn: The History, Present and Future

    The Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture has a rich history of success in plant breeding, initially in vegetables and then in ornamentals. Dr. Brand will touch on some of the important accomplishments of plant breeders who did their work as members of PSLA. He will then continue with his own breeding program on ornamental shrubs and how it all began. UConn plant introductions will be showcased and the whys and hows of their creation will be explained. Genera to be covered include Aronia, Berberis, Buddleia, Clethra, Panicum, Pieris, Prunus and Rhododendron.
