DIVISION OF STUDENT LIFE & ENROLLMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

    Pamela D. Schipani, Ed.D. Retirement

After 37 years of distinguished service to the University of Connecticut, Pamela D. Schipani, Ed.D. will retire on December 1, 2023. She most recently served for the past year in the role of Interim Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and prior to that as the Executive Director of Residential Life for 9 years. In the role of Interim Assistant VPSA, Schipani partnered with senior administration to establish division-wide priorities and assessment strategies that enhanced Student Affairs’ programs and services. She provided leadership and supervision for the following departments: Community Standards, Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services, Student Care and Concern, and Residential Life.

During her time as Executive Director of Residential Life, she initiated a comprehensive departmental review and staffing assessment which strengthened the department’s position as a leading residential life department in the country. She led a multi-unit department that served over 12,000 residential students on two campuses. Pam was a key member of the planning and design committee for Werth tower in 2016, involved in the Stamford campus housing program design, and served on the design and planning committees for two new residential buildings on the Storrs campus. She has worked at UConn for 37 years serving in various capacities including serving as Interim Director of Wellness and Prevention Services, Housing Services Director, Associate Director of Residence Education, Coordinator of Training and Research, Complex Coordinator, and Interim Director of Technology Services within Residential Life. In addition, Pam was member of the Higher Education and Student Affairs Faculty at the Neag School of Education where she taught Structured Group Intervention and was an instructor for the First Year Experience and Senior Year Experience courses.

Prior to working at UConn, Pam worked at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA and Alfred State College in Alfred NY. She has also served as a high school guidance counselor and a high school social studies teacher. Pam holds a bachelor’s in Sociology, Psychology and Education from SUNY Geneseo, a master’s degree in Counseling from St. Bonaventure University and her doctorate in Education from New England College.

Pam will leave an unforgettable mark on UConn as she always strived to contribute to an environment that had at its core the welfare and success of students. She did this by living with a set of values that describe and guide her practice; these include care for self and others, diversity, excellence, engaged leadership, professionalism, and thoughtfulness. Her knowledge and experience will be greatly missed by all. We wish her the best in her next chapter!
