Dr. David Clare will discuss the complex Irish identity of Belfast-born Chronicles of Narnia author C.S. Lewis, which remained central to the author’s life and work. Clare will pay particular attention to The Magician's Nephew, a prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. David Clare is Associate Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick. His books include the monographs Irish Anglican Literature and Drama (2021) and Bernard Shaw's Irish Outlook (2016) and the edited collections Across Borders and Time: Jonathan Swift (2022), The Golden Thread: Irish Women Playwrights, 1716-2016 (2 vols, 2021), and The Gate Theatre, Dublin: Inspiration and Craft (2018).
