  • 10/6 Are You Mentoring Undergraduate Students?

Engagement check-in: Are you mentoring undergraduate students who are beginner undergraduate researchers this academic year?
    October 6, 12:00-1:00
Online - link will be sent to registered participants
Presenters: Renee Gilberti, Tina Huey and Rachel Prunier

The CAPS Research / McNair Scholars Program office and CETL are looking to engage mentors in a dynamic discussion to learn how the experience is going for the undergraduate students and mentors (e.g., PIs, graduate students, postdocs) involved in their training.

Our goal is to help mentors more effectively mentor beginner undergraduate researchers across disciplines by providing a space for discussion of both challenges and successful strategies.

This will be an informal discussion, with the following in mind:
Are the students as fully engaged as you anticipated?
If not, what do you believe are some barriers preventing full engagement?
What are some tactics you use to encourage your students to engage more fully?
Would guidelines of common pitfalls and effective practices be helpful to you?
