The Department of Literatures, Cultures & Languages has invited Rokhaya Diallo to UConn for a series of events on September 19th & 20th. Diallo is a French journalist, activist, writer, public speaker and filmmaker. She is currently a researcher in residence at Georgetown University. She contributes frequently to The Guardian, AlJazeera, and writes a regular column for the Washington Post. In 2013, Rokhaya Diallo made Slate's list of most influential French women, and in 2021 she was named as one of Politico's 28 most powerful people in Europe. She specializes in anti-racism, human rights, immigration issues, multiculturalism, and feminism.
Rokhaya will give a talk titled "Can Black and Brown Lives Count in Color-Blind France?" followed by Q&A. There will be a screening of two of her latest films: Acting While Black: Blackness on the French Screens, The Parisienne Uncovered (both films will be in French with English subtitles), also followed by Q&A, and a workshop on empowerment. All events are in English and open to the UConn community. All events will be catered. The details with times and locations are outlined below.
