  • IBACS Hiring Part Time CDL Drivers

The Institute for the Brain and Cognitive Sciences (IBACS) seeks temporary CDL drivers to be part of a driver pool for a 2012 IHC Navistar LifeLine Mobile® Laboratory. This is a straight truck with an automatic transmission and air brakes. This driver position is responsible for round trip transports of the mobile laboratory from the UConn Storrs Campus to a defined location in Connecticut and/or the greater New England area, with a focus on destinations that reach underserved communities and public gathering spaces. The exact destinations of the research and outreach events are subject to change.

The driver must arrive in advance of the trip to inspect and if necessary, fuel the vehicle and change the water in the water reservoir. The driver is responsible for transporting the vehicle, with its contents, to a defined location where they will then be responsible for safely parking and stabilizing the vehicle and preparing its systems for use- such as deploying the bump-out and starting the diesel generator. The driver will remain on duty for the duration of the event and support the research and outreach team in using the vehicle’s systems. Upon completion of the event, the driver is responsible for preparing the vehicle for travel and safely returning the vehicle, along with its contents, to the UConn Storrs Campus.

This is an on-call part-time truck driving job that is perfect for licensed CDL Class A or B drivers seeking supplemental income and looking for anywhere from 0 to 12 hours a week based on the Institute’s needs. Drivers with flexibility to work weekday evenings and weekends are encouraged to apply. The truck will be reserved for events by research faculty and other UConn community members. To accommodate their varied schedules, our Institute is establishing a driver pool with multiple drivers.
