Dr. Chris Bernard has joined the OVPR team as Interim Sr. Director of Research Security in addition to his position as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for UConn. As Sr. Director, he will be overseeing and facilitating export control and secure research regulatory requirements for UConn Health and UConn Storrs and regional campuses.
As CISO at UConn, Chris has been instrumental in leading the ongoing support of the Secure Research Infrastructure (SRI) enclave, ensuring a secure environment for research activities, and collaborating with investigators to meet various sponsor or data provider security requirements.
Chris has a deep knowledge of research security that spans across both business and higher education. He has held diverse roles in academia and corporate settings that highlight his comprehensive understanding of information technology, regulatory requirements, and research security. He has served as a NSF Principal Investigator, classroom instructor, and leader in various areas of information technology.
Chris holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from The University of New England and an MBA in International Business from Xavier University.
