The UConn Police Department’s Safety Techniques & Awareness Resource Team (START) is pleased to offer a FREE women's self-defense program: Surviving Violent Encounters (SVE).
This 12-hour self-defense program, will run for 4 consecutive Wednesday nights starting June 28th through July 19th; each class starts promptly at 5:15 p.m., ending around 8:00 p.m. Each class will be held at the Hawley Armory located on the Storrs campus. The first 3 classes are mandatory to complete the program while the 4th class, which allows participants to take part in hands-on, simulated training, is voluntary. This program is progressive, each class builds upon the previous one. This comprehensive program helps participants identify realistic risks to their safety, evoke discussion of risk assessment and response strategies, and develop physical and mental preparedness skills through repetition and simulation training.
