Looking for something new to do this summer? The Museum’s Summer Art Academy is the perfect opportunity for students ages 5-11 to explore special exhibitions, experiment with hands-on art techniques, and make new friends. Students will stretch their imaginations as they think critically, creatively, and collaboratively about art!

Space is limited for each session and reservations are required; please contact the Curator of Education at 860-486-1711 or email mollie.sixsmith@uconn.edu to reserve your place.

    $150 museum members/$160 non-members.

SECRETS OF THE FOREST: FAERIES AND GNOMES (ages 5-7) Enter a magical and artistic realm of hard-to-find creatures, faeries and gnomes! Students will get creative as they build faerie and gnome dwellings, design magical wands, paint with faerie dust, and sculpt toadstools.

UNDERSEA FANTASY: ART OF THE UNDERWATER (ages 8-11) Come learn about the different habitats in the ocean and the creatures who call this place home! Students will stretch their imaginations as they print with fish, build coral reefs, construct miniature aquariums, design giant squid, and experiment with watercolor painting.

NATURE'S ART: BIRDS, BUGS, AND BUTTERFLIES (ages 5-7)
Students will step into the role of a naturalist as they explore the museum’s outdoor sculpture garden and sketch from nature each day. During the week, students will build 3-D nature scenes, construct larger-than-life butterflies, sculpt insects, weave nests, and experiment with sand art.

ARTVENTURE: PIRATES AND MERMAIDS (ages 8-11)
Get ready to set sail! Students will enter a fantasy world filled with swashbuckling pirates and mythical mermaids. During the week, students will construct pirate ships, build telescopes, design treasure boxes, make maps, and paint life-size mermaids.
