Please join us for an in-person Teale lecture, on Thursday, March 2 at 4:00pm in the Konover Auditorium in the Dodd Center on the UConn Storrs campus.

Dr. Arun Agrawal’s research and teaching foci emphasize the politics of international development, institutional change, environmental conservation, and sustainability. He has written critically on indigenous knowledge, community-based conservation, common property, population resources, and environmental identities. Dr. Agrawal coordinates the University of Michigan's Collaborating Research Center for the International Forestry Resources and Institutions network. He was also recently appointed to serve as Co-Chair the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) “Transformative Change Assessment.” This international scientific assessment is charged with evaluating the underlying causes of biodiversity loss, the determinants of transformative change, and options for achieving the 2050 vision for biodiversity.

Dr. Agrawal conducts research in central and east Africa as well as South Asia. His work has appeared in Science, PNAS, Conservation Biology, Development and Change, among other journals. Preceding his work at the University of Michigan, Dr. Agrawal was educated at Duke University, the Indian Institute of Management, and Delhi University and has held teaching and research positions at Yale, Florida, McGill, Berkeley, and Harvard.
