Hello UConn Community,
The Science of Learning and the Art of Communication (SLAC) Fellowship program's DEI committee is proud to announce a series of DEI workshops this semester regarding classroom inclusivity - making your class accessible to all students at the outset!
In order for us to even have these events, we first need to talk about the buzzwords and topics and what they mean. One of our community members, Kelly Mahaffy, will be leading an info session/discussion on:
Teaching Buzz Words: What They Mean and How We Should Use Them to Make Our Labs and Classrooms More Welcoming
Together, let's explore all of the trendy buzzwords in education from differentiated instruction to active learning and everything in between. We will define many of these buzzwords together and brainstorm ways to put them into practice in our labs, classrooms, and other mentoring/teaching opportunities. Feel free to bring a syllabus, teaching statement, or ideas that you have for making your classroom and lab more inclusive and we will workshop these terms together!
Date: Monday, February 27th, 2023 4:00pm-5:00pm
Location: ARJ 307 (this might change if we receive more participants, please register to get further communication!)
If we get more than the room capacity, we might move to a bigger room. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided!
Best,
The SLAC DEI Committee
