Our speaker will be Mohammed Kaplan, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Scholar, California Institute of Technology

“In situ structural biology using cryo-electron tomography”

Summary: In his talk, Kaplan will first present how he used cryo-ET to investigate the assembly and disassembly pathways of the bacterial flagellar motor in cellular milieu at macromolecular resolution. In the second part, Kaplan will discuss how he used cryo-ET to image the lifecycle of the microbial predator Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus.

Bio: Kaplan received his PhD in ssNMR/DNP at Utrecht University and is currently a postdoc in the Jensen lab where he is using cryo-ET to study the assembly, disassembly and evolution of biomolecular complexes.
