  • Enrolling Participants in Covid/Hearing Study

    Volunteers are needed to participate in research study to help us develop better understanding of how COVID-19
    affects hearing and brain function.
     
    As part of the study, participants will listen to sounds and make decisions about them. We will also record
    brainwaves from sensors placed on your head while you hear different sounds.
     
    It is a 1-session study (~2-2.5 hours) and scheduling is flexible. Participants will receive $10/hour for
    participation and a hearing test.
     
    To be eligible for the study you must meet the criteria below:
     Be between the ages of 18 and 60
     Be in good health
     Have never been diagnosed with COVID-19, tested positive for COVID-19, or had a suspected case of
    COVID-19
     Be a native speaker of English
     Have no history of a neurological disease (i.e., stroke, Parkinson’s disease, seizures)
     Have no history of a congenital developmental delay
     Have no history of severe mental illness (i.e., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder)
     Have no history of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and/or Heart Failure
     Have no history of Fibromyalgia and/or Chronic Renal Disease
     Have no history of ear surgery, including placement of tubes
     Have no history of hearing loss, including fluctuating hearing loss (hearing loss that comes and goes)
     Have no history of Meniere’s disease (hearing loss associated with dizziness)
     Have no prior history of smoking
     Take no more than 2000 mg of aspirin a day (more than six 325 mg tablets a day)
     Have not received gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, streptomycin or another ototoxic drug
     Have not received chemotherapy for cancer
