  • Faculty Needed for Common Curriculum Subcommittees

This past Fall, the University Senate officially passed the new “Common Curriculum for Leadership and Global Citizenship.” This system will replace the current “General Education” system as of Fall 2025. To this end, the Common Curriculum Committee+ (CCC+) seeks full-time faculty (both APIR and TT) to serve on its course review subcommittees. Openings are available in the following areas:

    TOI-1: Creativity: Design, Expression, Innovation
TOI-2: Cultural Dimensions of Human Experiences
TOI-3: Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice
    TOI-4: Environmental Literacy
TOI-5: Individual Values and Social Institutions
    TOI-6: Science and Empirical Inquiry
    Writing (W) Competency

Note: TOI = Topic of Inquiry

Most review will take place virtually and/or asynchronously. We estimate that faculty may need to review between 25-50 courses per semester. Faculty who volunteer should be willing and able to respond in a timely manner to review requests and provide minimal feedback to subcommittee co-chairs.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape UConn’s new curriculum from the beginning. There is no set term of service. Volunteer for one semester or for as many semesters as you want.

For full details about the new Common Curriculum, including descriptions for all Topics of Inquiry (TOIs), please see the approved CC Guidelines.

To volunteer, please email karen.mcdermott@uconn.edu and CC geoc@uconn.edu. Use “Common Curriculum Subcommittee” as your subject.
