  • 1/10 Using Career Development Modules in Class

Career Development modules are easily digestible lessons designed to provide instructors with self-paced learning experiences for students to complete that align course objectives with assignments. There are five modules comprised of individual topics that take 10-15 minutes to complete. Modules can be directly embedded into HuskyCT courses.

How can you use the Career Development Modules in your classes?

Each topic can be assigned to students inside or outside of class time and used as a self-paced assignment or instructor-led series with the ability to be customized.

Examples of how modules can be incorporated into the classroom:

    • Assign the Résumé module topic Résumé Bullet Point Development. Students create three bullet point statements to add to their résumés. At least one of the bullet points must demonstrate a career competency that has been exhibited and another must demonstrate a skill or accomplishment achieved during this course. Within each bullet point, students will indicate the what, the how, and the why. This assignment showcases Career & Self Development and Critical Thinking.
    • Assign two topics of learning - Tailoring your Cover Letter and Job Searching and Engagement through LinkedIn. Upon completing these topics, students create a cover letter tailored to a specific job they are well-suited for or find interesting. A peer review of the cover letter could also take place, helping students become more career competent in the areas of Career & Self Development, Communication, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology.

The Center for Career Development is hosting a brief Career Development Modules Overview on Tuesday, January 10, where faculty and staff will be given a virtual tour of the Center for Career Development's HuskyCT Course: Career Development Modules. The purpose and improvements of the modules will be highlighted in addition to how the modules can be utilized within the classroom or office to promote career readiness. The overview will be held virtually on Zoom and will be recorded. Click here to register.
