Colleagues,
Patricia “Trish” Casey, AVP for Financial Operations and Controller, has decided to leave UConn for another opportunity that will provide her the family and work life balance she seeks, while still making significant contributions to higher education finance. Her last day is on September 9th.
For the last three years, Trish has been a tremendous leader of our financial operations, leading operational improvements in accounts payable and travel management, as well as remediating long-standing audit findings and overseeing the issuance of over $500 million in bonds to support the university’s capital program. Because of Trish’s leadership, UConn extended its streak to 6 consecutive years of being awarded the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government entity and its management. Please join me in thanking Trish for her steady leadership and excellent service to the university.
I am pleased to announce that Margaret “Peggy” McCarthy, currently the University Bursar, has agreed to serve as the interim AVP for Financial Operations and Controller. Peggy’s 14 years at UConn overseeing cash operations, disbursements, billing, accounts receivable, treasury and other financial management functions makes her the right person to replace Trish. Peggy’s background includes leadership positions in public and private sector financial management, including vice president of public sector banking at Bank of America, assistant controller at UBS Global Asset Management, director of financial risk management for Duracell International, and a senior staff accountant at KPMG. Please join me in welcoming Peggy to this new role and thanking her for agreeing to lead UConn’s award-winning financial operations team.
