    Facilitating the Success of International Students: Inclusive Classroom and Technology Integration (Virtual)

    Presenters: Xiaochen Liu, Daniel Facchinetti, CETL

    With the special guest presenter Daniel Facchinetti, the LMS Faculty Development Specialist of Educational Technologies from CETL, we will explore the ways to make courses work better for international students and foster belonging and activate diversity to enhance learning. In this interactive workshop, we will share experiences, scenarios, and opportunities that often arise when students and instructors from diverse parts of the world gather in a class. Tools and strategies will be suggested for promoting interaction and helping international students learn.

    First 30 minutes lecture is aim to enhance participants' recognition of:

    • cultural and linguistic diversity
    • make class roles visible to encourage participation
    • implicit bias
    • effective course activities for openness and trust
    • strategies and resources for equitable participation

    For the next 30 minutes, special guest speaker Dan Facchinetti will focus on:

    • Uconn supported educational technologies and how these technologies can support international students learning
    • Main platforms you can expect to encounter as an instructor, and will help you make sure you have the right hardware, software, and skills to be ready to go with technology in your courses. 
    • What to do and who to contact when you need help

    For the rest of the time, depending upon the interests of participants, the discussion may include:

    • Dual-language learning, thinking, and note taking
    • Difficult dialogues
    • Things that are on your mind!
