Special Events and Receptions

  • 6/11 Queer Science Conference (Ages 13-17)

The Vergnano Institute for Inclusion, the School of Engineering’s diversity and outreach center, is hosting a one-day summer conference for LGBTQIA+ high school students in CT to network with LGBTQIA+ researchers at UConn. During the Queer Science Conference, students will participate in science demos, meet with young STEM professionals who will make them feel represented, and will get tours of UConn’s campus, including modern STEM labs and the award-winning Rainbow Center.

Many young LGBTQIA+ students may not see themselves as future scientists or engineers, but we have a volunteer roster with dozens of UConn graduate students and faculty from fields like engineering, ecology, biology, psychology, and geoscience who are doing ground-breaking research and who all identify within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. We believe high school students deserve to feel represented in the world of science and engineering, and we are prepared to make them feel welcome here at UConn!

This completely-free event is taking place on Saturday, June 11th, 2022 on UConn’s campus. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
