  • Public Safety Rebranded to "University Safety"

The University of Connecticut Division of Public Safety will undergo a rebranding and will be known as “University Safety.” The change will officially take place on Tuesday, March 1.  The change is a result of a multi-year effort to consolidate safety services at UConn and UConn Health into one organization.

University Safety includes the following departments:  police, fire, emergency management, environmental health and safety, the fire marshal and building inspector and 911 communications. This includes services at UConn Storrs, UConn Health, UConn Law and all regional campuses.

“The name University Safety offers UConn a significant opportunity to continue to reimagine safety services at UConn and UConn Health,” says Hans Rhynhart, Associate Vice President for the Division of University Safety. “Whether you are working in a laboratory, living in a residence hall or performing any function at UConn, our priority is ensure we are creating safe and supportive environments for people to learn, live and work.  The name University Safety reflects a coordinated approach and the integration of safety in everything we do.”

The Division of University Safety is committed to promoting a culture of safety on all levels from a university-wide perspective.  This is reflected in the Division’s new mission statement:

The Division of University Safety provides comprehensive, proactive, and responsive safety services to the University of Connecticut and UConn Health. The Division provides leadership in the support and promotion of a culture of safety and protection, for the University community and its environment. Every member of the Division is committed to this mission while being respectful and inclusive towards all.
