  • Temp Position in Dramatic Arts

    The School of Fine Arts Department of Dramatic Arts seeks qualified applicants for the position of Temporary University Specialist. Under the direction of the Department Head, the Temporary University Specialist will provide day-to-day administrative support to the Department of Dramatic Arts.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide general administrative support for the Department Head including maintaining the Department Head’s calendar, handling administrative matters and preparing standard correspondence and data for reports as needed.
    • Overseeing office administration and organizational support needs for the Department of Dramatic Arts: responding to requests from students, faculty, and staff members, making routine purchases and other financial transactions, maintaining filing and record keeping, supporting faculty and staff travel arrangements and reimbursements in compliance with University policies and procedures, managing maintenance of the Department’s office equipment, resources in Drama-controlled academic spaces, and overall facilities needs including communication with custodial staff
    • Coordinating Drama course schedules and room assignments. Serving as the liaison between the Department Head, faculty, and the Office of the Registrar
    • Maintain communication with internal and external contacts to ensure the office functions smoothly and professionally
    • Maintaining and monitoring student registration, academic records such as course rosters, grade reports and academic records, and processing and tracking scholarships, fellowships, and awards to students
    • Assisting in coordination of the BFA Acting Study Abroad Program in London.
    • Facilitating student recruitment and admissions processes in coordination with faculty leadership and the School of Fine Arts. Coordinating Drama Open Houses, UConn Bound Day, and other departmental events.
    • Supervising graduate and undergraduate student workers.
    • Assists with other programs, processes, or activities as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • Two years of related experience
    • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to skillfully multi-task
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Prior experience in a higher education academic setting
    • Strong knowledge and familiarity with basic software programs - Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel and Word
    • Customer service experience.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a part-time (20 hrs./week), temporary position with an expected initial appointment to start as soon as possible and run through at least April 21, 2022, with the possibility of extending to a later date. The hours may include occasional evening or weekend commitments.
