  • 1/19 Earthtones Vocal Ensemble: Work Songs

You are invited to join Earthtones, the UConn World Music Vocal Ensemble as we explore Work Songs from varied cultures and historical periods. This course includes a diverse array of folk and popular songs linked to work experiences that highlight specific historical periods, voice protest against injustices, and reflect a strong sense of pride, sense of humor and feeling of community. Some tunes are well-known, others are more obscure. The stories and songs of the daily laborers will touch your heart, make you laugh (and cry) and have you rethinking work experiences from the past and of the present. We will sing virtually for two weeks with the intent of creating a final performance at the end of the semester.

We welcome students who like to learn about history and culture through music and are eager to participate in a unique learning experience about laborers who are often ignored or forgotten. By taking this class, you will help to ensure that their songs and stories live on for another generation.

Earthtones is open to all students (no auditions) and fulfills 1 credit towards the CA1 Arts and Humanities requirement.  The course (FINA 1001/MUSI 1006) meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:30. Come join us.
