  • How to Talk to Your Children about the Pandemic

As we enter year two of the pandemic, we all know that pandemic burnout is very real. Processing yet another surge can be difficult for adults to process - not to mention children. Young people react to anxiety and stress differently than adults. Some may react right away; others may show signs that they are having a difficult time much later. As such, adults do not always know when a child needs help.

The Deer Oaks Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides resources regarding Parenting and Kids Wellbeing, specifically an article on Talking to Kids During Infectious Disease Outbreaks. The tip sheet will help parents, caregivers, and teachers learn some common reactions, respond in a helpful way, and know when to seek support, while providing strategies for helping children manage their stress during the pandemic.

To access this article and many more resources, visit the Human Resources Employee Assistance Program website, and click on the UConn Deer Oaks website on the right side bar. You can find the Talking to Kids During Infectious Disease Outbreaks article under the Parenting drop down.
