UConn is seeking applicants for College Adviser positions with the College Advising Corps.
UConn College Advising Corps (UConnCAC) is an affiliate of College Advising Corps, a national non-profit organization that works to increase the rates of college enrollment and completion among lowincome, first-generation college and underrepresented high school students. In partnership with AmeriCorps, UConnCAC seeks to hire recent college graduates to serve as college advisers in high-need high schools. As members of a national movement, UConn College Advising Corps college advisers will help students in underserved communities realize their dreams of attending college. College advisers will report to CAC Director and to an on-site liaison in their respective high school placement sites. Advisers will be expected to tailor programs and activities to support the achievement of school-based targets related to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to increase college enrollment and persistence for students. Advisers will undergo a mandatory month-long training in advance of their appointment from expert professionals on topics of college access, admissions, financial aid and scholarships, test preparation, and working with diverse populations.
Qualifications--CAC Advisers must have earned a bachelor’s degree prior to January 1, 2022. Service sites are at public high schools in the state of Connecticut within reasonable distance to UConn’s main campus in Storrs.
Benefits--This is an AmeriCorps volunteer position with a living allowance of $2,672 per month. Annual Education Award (can be used to pay student loans or graduate school expenses). Health, Vision and Dental Insurance.
Appointment Terms--This is a full-time six-month position beginning in January 2022 and ending in June 2022. Advisers will undergo a mandatory training in advance of their appointment from expert professionals. Successful completion of a criminal background check and Minor Protection Training are required. Employment at the University of Connecticut is contingent upon the successful candidate’s compliance with the University’s Mandatory Workforce COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. This Policy states that all workforce members are required to have or obtain a Covid-19 vaccination as a term and condition of employment at UConn, unless an exemption or deferral has been approved.
