  • SHaW Earns Respected Accreditation

Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) at UConn recently earned full accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).  AAAHC is the leading accreditation body for ambulatory health care, serving over 6,100 medical and dental practices, student health centers, ambulatory surgery centers and other medical facilities.

The accreditation – which SHaW in various iterations has continually attained since 1986 - recognizes SHaW’s commitment to the highest standards of student care and professional practice.  AAAHC evaluated the quality of clinical services and operational practices concerning outcomes, safety, patient rights, governance, risk management and records management.  Across twenty-one measures reviewed by AAAHC, SHaW achieved the highest possible grade – fully compliant – in eighteen of them.

AAAHC accreditation is an important, objective validation of the high quality of care that UConn provides students through Student Health and Wellness.  The quality of care SHaW delivers across its medical, mental health, health promotion, pharmacy and other support services places SHaW among the very best ambulatory care facilities in the country.  SHaW’s high marks for its operating practices attest to professionalism and a high degree of competence in running best-in-class student health and wellness services.  Students and parents can take a great deal of assurance knowing that such high quality care is available here at UConn.
