  • 2021-22 Nat'l Fellowships Incentive Program OPEN

Faculty - Is one or more of your student mentees submitting an application for a nationally-competitive external fellowship this academic year?  If so, you may be eligible for up to $1,000 in professional development funds through UConn's National Fellowships Incentive Program (NFIP).

Under this ambitious program, UConn faculty are eligible for up to $1,000 in professional development funds for mentoring students (graduate OR undergraduate) through the process of developing proposals and submitting applications for eligible awards.  Details on the program and award eligibility may be found at http://onsf.uconn.edu/nfip.  Since 2016, the Office of National Scholarships & Fellowships (ONSF) has distributed approximately $450,000 in professional development funds to faculty under the auspices of this program.

Applications for funds distributed through the NFIP are accepted on a rolling basis through the online application found here. This round of funding will support faculty whose students submit applications for eligible fellowships between August 1, 2021 and June 1, 2022.

NOTE:  Faculty mentors must submit an application - ideally within 30-60 days of the date their students submit applications - to receive these funds.  Applications associated with fellowships with Fall 2021 deadlines must be submitted before January 19, 2022.  Demand for the program has outstripped available funds two of the last three years, so mentors are encouraged to apply early.

Finally, please encourage your graduate students to visit the URL above to investigate the student portion of the program. They may also be eligible for a small stipend for having submitted an external fellowship application.
